armed with this data, Shahir began to focus on developing a series of complex algorithms that would allow the microwave to identify the type of food being cooked using a single thermocouple infrared array sensor and calculate the time it takes for the food to reach its ideal temperature. With help from his dad (an Intel engineer) and colleagues, Shahir invented a smart microwave that could theoretically calculate the perfect temperature and cooking time for any type of food.
Now, both cooking timers and food temperatures can be displayed on one app, but Shahir is still working on improvements. He hopes his invention will prevent fires and be able to automatically identify types of food without requiring user input.
The rise of smart homes has made life less complicated, but Shahir still has a long way to go before his invention hits store shelves. If he's lucky, he'll achieve his goal before everything in our kitchens becomes smart.
